A group figure of a boy standing and a girl seated, she is wearing a blouse and long skirt with her hat by her side, she has a book on her lap, the boy wearing a dunce’s cap and standing on one leg holding the other off the ground, he is wearing a shirt, short jacket, and trousers, holding a drawing slate in his right hand. This figure is in mint perfect condition.
This figure is known as “The Dunce“. It was a common form of punishment in Victorian schools for a child to be chastised in this way.
